You’ve heard about the health benefits of CBD and want to try it. But how do you figure out what is the right CBD oil dose for you? And does the dose depend on how you take it?
CBD products generally have two numbers to help you figure out your dose: the amount of total liquid and the amount of CBD. If a vape cartridge has 15 ml of liquid and 250mg of CBD, there is a total of 15ml of liquid in that cartridge and the amount of CBD in the 15ml is 250mg. That means there is 16.67 milligrams of CBD per milliliter.
Well, yeah, but how much of that 250 mg should you take?
Finding Your CBD Oil Dose
A large number of factors affect the size of the dose that will work for you.
- Quality and potency of the CBD
- Your weight, metabolism, and diet
- The condition being treated and its severity
To find just the right CBD oil dose for you, start low. Honest Marijuana recommends that you experiment with a dose for three days to see how you react to the medication. Adjust this dose for the next three-day period as needed.
It’s a good idea to record variables like weight, what you ate, the amount of CBD oil taken, how you felt before and after, how long you felt it, and anything else that you believe affected the experience.
Dose Suggestions
Honest Marijuana produced a table of dosage suggestions based on weight and the severity of the ailment. Use these as a starting point.
The label of your CBD oil product will say something like: Serving Size: X drops. The label will also list the amount of CBD (in milligrams) per serving.
This handy Sample Calculation will show you how to use that information to figure out your dosage.
How You Take It Also Matters
Because vaporization, sublingual tinctures, or transdermal patches, provide a more direct route to your bloodstream than oral forms like pills or gummies, you may want to experiment with different methods.
- Sublingual Drops: Taking very small amounts of CBD on a regular schedule is the most successful and cost-effective way to find your dosage with sublinguals.
- Vaping: It’s generally recommended that you take one or two “hits” and then wait a few minutes. If you haven’t gotten any relief, then you can take another one or two “hits” and repeat the process until you do.
- Oral Capsules and Gummies: While the bioavailability of oral capsules and gummies is much lower than vaping or sublinguals, you know how many milligrams you’re taking because the packaging will tell you. Usually, they range between 10 – 25 milligrams of CBD per capsule or gummy. Edibles can take from 30 minutes to an hour to kick in. Wait at least two hours before you take more so you don’t overdose.
